When you first create your branch, you'll have a default office layout that you can customize using Builder Mode! Currently, only members decorate and customize the office (sorry, guests!)
Objects can be purchased using acorns. Learn more about earning acorns: What are acorns? How do I earn acorns in branch?
To decorate your office, click on the 'Enter Builder Mode' button at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. This is where the magic all happens!
There are 7 main categories with a multitude of subcategories within:
- Wall Decoration
Click on the icon of a building category to display all objects in that category and click on a subcategory will display only objects within that subcategory. For example, clicking on Wall Decorations will show all objects within the Wall Decorations Category:
Hover over an object in the toolbar to display display a popup with the name, description, larger preview, and cost:
On specific objects, there will be several colored rectangles over the object preview indicating that there are variations of these objects.
For example, the Gamer Laptop comes in white, purple, red, and black. Hover over a color swatch to preview the object. Click on a color swatch to select the object in your desired color:
Use the search bar at the bottom right of your Builder Mode task bar to search for objects that you would like to use. For example, if you search up desk you will also get desk plants that perfectly complement your setup!
Placing objects into your branch office is as simple as selecting the object from the Builder menu and clicking on where you'd like the object to go. If you decide you don't want to place the selected object in your office, you can cancel the transaction by pressing your escape key and the toolbar will reopen.
Snapping Objects Into Place
Snapping will help you place objects neatly around the office. You can select to snap objects within 1 tile to 1/16th of a tile.
Tip: You will only be able to snap objects into place when in Build Mode; you will not be able to snap objects after placing the object.
If you selected a tile-like object, such as floors, it will be bound to the map's grid. Simply click, move your cursor until where you'd like to finish placing, then click again to place.
While you have an object selected, you can rotate it pretty easily:
- Clock wise: Scroll down or Shift + r
- Counter Clock Wise: Scroll up or r
Tip: Not every object can be rotated. Floors can be rotated in 4 directions. For objects that rotate, there may be 3-4 perspectives for each object: facing downwards by default, facing upwards, sideways facing to the left, sideways facing to the right. Objects that don't rotate can be flipped horizontally (examples: photocopiers, vending machines).
Once you've placed an object from the Builder toolbar into your office, you can easily move the object around the office.
1. In Builder Mode, right-click on the object, then select 'Reposition' to move the object:
2. You can also re-organize objects when not in Builder Mode by right-clicking on the object, then selecting 'Pickup' to move the object anywhere you like. Place the object down by right clicking and selecting 'Place Here:'
You can quickly remove items using bulldozer! To access bulldozer, click on the cancel icon next to the snapping option in the Builder toolbar:
Click on the arrow next to the cancel icon to select the object categories you'd like to remove, so that you don't accidentally remove objects that you mean to keep:
After selecting the categories you want to delete, click on the cancel icon to activate bulldozer. Then, click on whatever you'd like to sell with the trash can cursor and it'll refund your acorns:
Buying and Selling Objects
When you select to buy an object with acorns, there are three potential cost outcomes (we're building an economy out here, folks):
- You have to pay the remainder of the object transaction
I.e: replacing a cheaper object with a more expensive object, where the refund does not cover the new object cost
- You receive a refund
I.e: replacing a more expensive object with a cheaper object, where you'll receive an 80% refund rounded down to the nearest acorn
- The object transaction is free
Ie.: either the object is free, or the refund cancels out the cost to be free
Buying and Selling Floors & Wallpapers
While dragging floor and wallpaper tiles into your office, the tooltip will display how much the transaction will cost.
When you place a floor or wallpaper tile down, Builder Mode will check to see if there's an existing tile where you've placed the new tile, and will check if it has a price. If you're replacing more expensive tile with cheaper tile, you will receive an 80% refund rounded down to the nearest acorn.
Let's do a fun example to visualize these concepts - we'll go with replacing a higher cost tile with a lower cost tile:
In the example above, we're replacing a wallpaper style that costs 2 acorns with a wallpaper style that costs 1 acorn. The area we want to remodel covers 10 tiles. In other words, we're replacing 10x [1 acorn] wallpapers with 10x [2 acorn] wallpapers.
When we replace the acorns we pay (16*2) - [(10*1)*.8] acorns, which when rounded down only makes us pay 32 acorns for the new wallpaper!
